“A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams come true.”
― Greg Reid
Court Kid’s Closet was just a dream back in March 2024, now we are an official corporation that is helping kids in the Massachusetts court system! You are never too young or old to start achieving your dreams. I was 18 when I became president of my own non profit. I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life, but knew I wanted to help people. Having volunteered in a juvenile court I learned that to0 many children don’t have basic necessities like deodorant, toothbrushes, or undergarments when they are removed from their family or relocated. Often the children are packed into trash bags and leave their homes without clothes or shoes and they are rarely able to take special / security items. Through Court Kid’s Closet, we strive to provide children what they need, what they want, and to help them fulfill specific dreams like providing running shoes for kids who want to participate in sports or a dress to allow a child to attend a school dance or prom. I want every child to have access to whatever they need (and sometimes what they want) no matter their situation!
Thank You SparkLab!
The idea of Court Kids Closet was “sparked” as a result of a program held at Union College in 2024. Spark! Lab traditionally encourages participants to develop a “for profit” idea. Court Kids Closet was the first time a non-profit was introduced as an idea during a Spark! Lab competition. As a result of a $5,000 grant given by Spark! Lab, Court Kids Closet went from becoming a dream to becoming a fully formed not-for-profit organization. The funds from the grant not only allowed us to complete our first big event, but also provided the fees necessary to make us an official business and establish our non-profit status. They helped my dream become reality and I am grateful.
